Scheduled - What happened:
On January 18, 2019, Tableau Online removed support for TLS 1.0/1.1 in favor of the more secure TLS 1.2.

What is TLS?
TLS stands for “Transport Layer Security.” The TLS protocol provides secure transport of information between two applications. It is the most widely deployed security protocol used today and is used for web browsers and other applications that require data to be securely exchanged over a network.

What you need to do:
Make sure the web browser you use to connect to Tableau Online supports TLS 1.2. Starting January 18, 2019, if you attempt to connect with TLS 1.0/1.1, your browser will fail to connect and one of the following error messages may be displayed “Secure Connection Failed” or “Stronger Security is required.” If you are using a 3rd party tool or custom software to connect to Tableau online, you should reach out to the developer to ensure they support TLS 1.2.

Why we did this:
Earlier versions of TLS has been found to have vulnerabilities that may allow an attacker to expose sensitive information passed over this connection type. In addition, multiple security standards organizations including NIST and PCI have declared that TLS 1.0/1.1 no longer provides sufficient data protection.
